The Crown of the Caucasus
Rising majestically to 5,047 meters, Mount Kazbek is one of the highest peaks in the Caucasus and a sacred mountain in Georgian mythology. According to legend, this is where Prometheus was chained by the gods for giving fire to humanity. The region of Kazbegi (officially Stepantsminda) offers some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in all of Europe.
The journey to Kazbegi along the Zhinvali Reservoir is an adventure in itself, passing through dramatic gorges, alpine meadows, and traditional mountain villages. At the heart of it all stands the iconic Gergeti Trinity Church, perched at 2,170 meters with Mount Kazbek as its eternal backdrop.
