Land of the Towers
Svaneti is one of the most remarkable and isolated regions in the Caucasus—a land where medieval defensive towers rise against a backdrop of Europe's highest mountains. The UNESCO World Heritage villages of Ushguli, at 2,200 meters, are considered the highest continuously inhabited settlements in Europe.
For centuries, Svaneti's remote location protected its unique culture, architecture, and traditions. The Svans developed their own language, music, and customs, and their iconic koshki (towers) served as both defense against invaders and refuge during blood feuds. Today, this "land frozen in time" offers visitors an extraordinary glimpse into Georgia's medieval past.
